The Conference

Finally, I'm getting around to summing up last weekend. It's been a wonderful whirlwind.

My talk on Friday went okay. The quiet, brattily resistant 'i don't want to talk' me had to be interrupted because I was starting to take over and left little time for the other speaker!! Yes, I was nervous, but the power point projector's light was so strong, I could only see audience outlines, which looked like a giant shadowy blob, so it eased my tension. Some might be threatened by an unidentified blob, but hey, not me. Of course, I couldn't read my notes because I was blinded. That's when I started ad libbing. Big mistake. I didn't make it to the last part of my speech, which tied everything together, so I was a little disappointed by that.

The feedback was positive. I mean, who would be so unkind as to come up and say, "Rotten talk, go back to your hole." The executive director was very happy and came up and gave me a huge hug. She said some people were moved to tears.

The other presentations were informative and inspiring. So many strong, articulate voices bringing good to the world. Very impressive.

The person who impacted me most was Naomi Natale, an artist. She overwhelmed me with her brilliant and important work. Here is her bio and her call to action:

Sunday was the ADA Celebration (21 years since its inception). The poetry readings were powerful. The gallery work was amazing. Packed and productive. It was a glorious hour of mingling, munching and making money :-).

I am loving my new life! It is more than I had hoped for when I began my work ten years ago. I do hope I can make a difference in this world weary climate.

I thank all of you who have supported me throughout the years of toil, trouble, whining, defeatism...you lent me your strengths and I couldn't have reached this happy milestone in my development without you.
